Tactical shooting competition "Light Infantry” by Klub Strzelających Inaczej
Start in pairs (we went with Kółko Mi), 14 hours, roughly 25 km through the woods with full gear (one day I’ll actually measure it), 16 out of 20 terrain checkpoints cleared and 10 out of 15 shooting tasks completed.
The plan was to overtake one uber-commando team in the score. We actually overtook three. :-) Final placement: 17th out of 20.
We did what we could. Physically, in that timeframe there was no way we could cover more ground (and if we’d pushed by skipping rest, we’d have collapsed on the way). On the shooting range, with a bit better handling we might have managed 1-2 more tasks.
Things for me to work on:
-
Weapon handling (I’d had the rifle for just two weeks). With better familiarity, tasks would go faster and we could bag a few more.
-
Shooting stance – faster if drilled (accuracy was fine).
-
Scope zero was set at 100 m – that worked (with some eyeballed adjustments), but beyond that distance, not so great.
-
Practice prone shooting – thanks to my crooked spine, my neck hates it, so I’ll have to figure out positioning.
-
Tame the bangs, they get in the way of aiming. ;-)
-
At close ranges, kick the habit of peeking over the scope to check hits (time sink).
-
A cap for when the sun cooks you.
-
Fewer candy bars (someone has to carry them).
-
More hiking, mountain trips (looking at you, Weronika ;-P), just moving more in general.
On the plus side: I’m proud of my performance on very close-range shooting and clearing the 9-hole drill with ease.
Saturday was the competition, Sunday it hurt every time I moved, Monday it hurt just to wake up, and by Tuesday I was fine again – ready to go another round. :-D
SUMMARY
True to the spirit of this club, I’m giving it a solid 3/10. ;-P
